BIO

Mervin Wong is a performer. Raised in chambers of string, it took a moment for him to recognize the Viola as his truest limb. The tectonic shift to this deeper, enduring register has shaped his foray into electronic music-making. Mournful but reft of grief. Mervin Wong’s long-form sensibilities rouse our waterflesh.

Years of forging his intention allow his process to be bright with speed. In service of resonance, every grain is burnished to the bone. A canoe made of ice. His sounds return to matter. Where footsteps span lightyears. Waves seethe and where the cosmos can glide through an albatross.

Mervin Wong is a performer, violist, composer, and electronic producer. He is an artist that is deeply dedicated to the shared experience of sound. Mervin Wong is the co-runner of Endless Return, an ambitious and acclaimed South-east Asian project series and label that is committed to cultivating a strong, innovative, and regionally-specific community.

NOWNESS ASIA: Just Dance:Softshell and Feeders

Singaporean artists and filmmakers Elsa Wong and Zon Chan orchestrate a frenzied sensorial experiment in a new mixed-media project. A cybernetics saga depicted through two fictional characters, Softshell and Feeders offers a hypnotic web of textures, layered visuals, and movements encoding and decoding the connections between memory and the five senses.

Wong and Chan’s collaboration began with their shared interest in abstraction and mixed media processes. Butoh practitioner and performance artist XUE played a key role in developing the story. The accompanying track “Genesis” by Mervin Wong complimented the visuals with its tone of immediacy and quiet chaos.
